4. I have a latex allergy.
Latex Pillows Don’t Normally Cause Allergies
Fortunately, bedding products made of latex do not cause allergic reactions. Latex pillows are usually made out of Dunlop and Talalay latex. These are different from the rubber used in other medical or household products. The natural latex used to make pillows is heavily washed and cleaned to remove all the hevea proteins. The latex gel is also flash-heated into a solid form that further eliminates the remaining proteins. Also, you do not come in direct contact with the latex material inside the pillow, which makes them even safer to use without the fear of latex allergy.
Note: If you have been diagnosed as sensitive to latex allergies and/or have experienced severe latex allergy before, you should avoid latex pillows or consult your doctor before considering them.
You Can Avoid Dust Allergies with Latex Pillows
Regular pillows can attract dust, dust mites, mold, dander, etc., and irritate your eyes and sinus. This could lead to nasal congestion, coughing, and other frustrating allergy symptoms. Even the most expensive memory foam pillows suffer from such shortcomings. Not latex pillows, though.
Latex pillows allow air to pass through their pores and keep the pillow cool and dry. This prevents dust and mold from settling and keeps the pillow free of allergenic particles. Using a hypoallergenic pillowcase will keep the pillow even more clean and fresh.
A Few Useful Tips to Remember
If you’re not sure whether you’re allergic to latex or not, get an allergy test done before buying/using a latex pillow.
To avoid allergies, clean your latex pillows periodically.
Use an air purifier to trap dust and other allergy-causing particles in your bedroom.
If you live in a humid area, use a dehumidifier to prevent the bedroom from getting damp as excess moisture encourages mold and bacteria.
Only buy high-quality latex pillows made from natural rubber latex. Make sure they do not contain any other chemicals that might also cause allergies.
If you start experiencing allergy-like symptoms after buying a latex pillow, stop using it and consult your dermatologist or general physician.
